Jane is dual qualified as a solicitor and a trade mark and design attorney, with many years’ experience advising on commercial contracts, intellectual property, commercial agency and all aspects of technology law.

Jane’s practice focuses on intellectual property and data protection and she has particular expertise in advising on the intellectual property and data protection aspects of acquisitions and sales. She is also proficient in advising on pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply agreements in addition to the legal requirements for medical devices and diagnostic technologies. Jane regularly advises on protection, commercialisation and infringement of intellectual property.  She also advises on all aspects of privacy law including GDPR compliance projects, data subject access requests and cross-border transfers of personal data.  Jane is a registered trade mark and design attorney in Ireland and the European Union.

Jane has extensive experience acting for businesses on high value, complex contracts including cross-border agreements. She works closely with domestic and multinational clients in multiple sectors to deliver commercially focused solutions in their contractual arrangements. Jane’s work covers drafting and negotiating outsourcing agreements, software licences, service level agreements, website and app terms of use and end-user licence agreements. She also has expertise advising on a broad range of other commercial agreements including advising on distribution and supply agreements, and consultancy agreements for major pharmaceutical companies.

Jane has published articles on her specialist areas in the Irish media and is the co-author of the Ireland chapter in the ICLG 2019 and 2020 editions of Trade Mark Laws and Regulations.

  • Brand protection including trade mark prosecutions and intellectual property licensing arrangements.
  • Providing ongoing intellectual property advice to several national and multinational retailers concerning their operations in the Irish and EU markets.
  • Advising an Irish State body on its sponsorship agreement with the world’s largest social media company for a national cultural event covering intellectual property rights created as part of that collaboration.
  • Advised the receiver of a technology company on patent infringement risk as part of a potential sale by the receiver.
  • Advising an Irish manufacturer of medical device and pharma products packaging in a cross border supply agreement with a multinational public listed pharmaceutical company.
  • Advised an international automotive company on Ireland’s National IP Protocol and intellectual property issues arising in funding arrangements and licensing options under an R&D consortium agreement with State bodies and universities.
  • Advising a range of technology clients on IT systems development, implementation and licensing, and on emerging artificial intelligence (AI) issues.
  • Specialises in technology contracts, including for cloud solutions and data analytics services.
  • Drafted and led negotiations for an Irish FinTech on a high value software licensing and services agreement with a global financial institution.
  • Advised a large European data management business on software systems integration contracts in a time critical project for its group-wide ERP solution, across all its business functions.
  • Advised a UK Government Department on Irish law requirements for UK information society services to avail of country of origin protection in Ireland.
  • Advising multiple clients on data protection compliance in corporate transactions.
  • Advising a number of pension trustees on GDPR compliance.
  • Advising receivers and liquidators on their role in data protection compliance.
  • Advising clients on subject access request procedures responses, including dealing with complaints to the Irish regulator.
  • Advising multinational clients on strategies in data sharing and data transfer arrangements.
  • Advised an international AI-driven market insight business on its data agreements with suppliers and customers.  
  • Led the data privacy side in the firm’s advice to a multinational health care services company on data privacy considerations on a complex data subject access request made in a litigation context and the successful defence of a complaint to the Data Protection Commission.
  • Advising on brand protection and brand use guidelines in sponsorship arrangements. 
  • Advising on advertising policies and obligations.
  • Advising on e-commerce terms and consumer protection requirements.
  • Advising on online dispute resolution requirements for consumer disputes.
  • Drafted and led negotiations for an Irish financial management platform on a high value cross-border software licensing and services agreement with a global financial institution.
  • Coordinated, drafted and negotiated a suite of contracts as part of the outsourcing of certain HR functions to recruitment agencies on behalf of the Irish subsidiary of a leading insurance and financial services multinational.
  • Advised a large European data management business on software systems integration contracts in a time critical project for its group-wide ERP solution, across all its business functions.
  • Advised an international automotive company on intellectual property issues arising in funding arrangements and licensing options under a consortium agreement between that company and State bodies and universities to collaborate on R&D in Ireland.
