In response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Companies Registration Office (CRO) announced in March of this year that all annual returns due to be filed by any Irish registered company between 18 March and 30 June 2020 would be deemed to have been filed on time if all elements of the annual return were completed and filed by 30 June 2020.
Following a review of the current situation in early June, the CRO has decided to extend this arrangement for a further period until 31 October 2020.
This extension benefits companies with an annual return date that falls on or before 4 September 2020, as those companies would have been required to have all elements of their annual return filed on or before 30 October 2020.
Please see below some example annual return dates to illustrate how the new extension may be of assistance to your company, depending on your current annual return date.
Current Annual Return Date | Annual return electronic filing deadline | Financial Statements electronic filing deadline | 31 October 2020 extension beneficial? |
---|---|---|---|
15/07/2020 | 12/08/2020 | 09/09/2020 | Yes |
21/08/2020 | 18/09/2020 | 16/10/2020 | Yes |
30/09/2020 (most popular annual return date)
|
28/10/2020 | 25/11/2020 | No |
The CRO has once again requested that all companies that are in a position to file annual returns as normal during this difficult period should continue to do so.
